Who I am
My name is Ryan Crosbie, nice to meet you! I am a wine lover and wine professional that 'got the wine bug' in 2005. I have trained as a wine maker and fine wine retailer throughout California and in New York City.
I completed my first wine degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, then studied in Switzerland, France and Italy, and later obtained an Advanced certificate through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. Today I run a wine club and travel program at a leading wine university, University of California, Davis.
I am forever a student of wine, and always looking to learn and teach what I know. For over two decades of wine study and work, I've come to realize that the wine world feels infinitely large and ever changing.
Why I created this program
I created this program to help today's wine lover expand their horizons beyond what they already know, starting with a fun, easy, and memorable way to explore the top wines of the world.
What we know about wine even a few years ago may no longer be relevant. Because of this, learning about the wine world is getting harder, not easier!
The winemaking methods and traditional styles of one region can change quickly, and the producers that were well known even a few years ago may shift focus or go out of business. Consumer preferences also change, and the industry is forced to adapt.
It's hard to learn about the history, present, and past at the same time and no one seems to be teaching it.
The contents of this program are formatted and written in a way that I would want to read from someone - if it existed. And if I would want to read it myself, I decided to just write it myself.
Who this program isn't for
You are happy purchasing the same, or similar wines every time
Your sources of wine already include many wine professionals
You don't drink alcohol, or think wine is waste of grapes
