Gift-worthy Italians for the Holidays

Date: Fri, Dec 1, 2023 - Sun, Dec 3, 2023
Time 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Venue: Tasting Room @ 222 D Street in Davis

An important theme our customers shared regarding December: Having the right wines on hand to open for any group occasion, or to give away as gifts, without worrying about the price tag. As a result, we want to make the season of giving as easy as possible for you.

That's why we're opening up eight wines that you can stock up on and save. This includes some of our tastiest wines and since we have been featuring French wines for the past few months, we're starting to miss Italy!

Join us this weekend as we take a quick break from France to focus on Italian sparkling, white, and reds that range from perfectly balanced to full bodied, and just in time for the holiday gifting season. That includes gifts to yourself, too!

This Italian 'tour' and wine sale is designed for you to take advantage of the big discounts. All wines below are discounted 20% when included in a mix-and-match 12 bottle case. Add anything else in the shop to round out the 12 bottle case and those will get the regular 10% case discount.

The sale runs for one week from Friday, December 1st to Thursday, December 7th, or until sold out. Most of these wines haven't been opened much in the shop, so stop in and discover something new. We don't usually list the prices on this page, but since they are directly related to the sale we think it will be helpful.

Open at the Tasting Bar this Weekend

La Collina Lunaris Secco Sparkling Malvasia ($20 / $16) Our most fresh, appley, playful, and organic! sparkling wine is from the Malvasia grape made by an organic cooperartive farm and winery. Like this style? Their Lambrusco is also worth a look!

Marsuret Prosecco Superiore San Boldo ($23 / $18.4) The heart of Prosecco, aka the good stuff, comes from Valdobbiadene, where Marsuret has been making exceptional sparking for over 60 years. In terms of sparkling, we almost always prefer French Cremant over Prosecco, but this one from Marsuret is surely a holiday crowd pleaser.

Manincor Reserve Della Contessa Bianco ($32 / $25.6) Any chance we get to open this wine, we do so with delight. Brigh and fresh white blend of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon from the far north of Italy. Fastidiously grown with biodynamic principles by an incredible estate and winery. This has become a staple in some of your wine fridges for good reason.

Sasso di Sole Rosso di Montalcino ($28 / $22.4). Dark-fruited and sultry Sangiovese from Montalcino for a really great price is appreciated around these parts, especially when it comes from a talented producer like Sasso di Sole. Hearty, delicious, and incredibly smooth.

Fattoria San Lorenzo di Gino Rosso Piceno ($19 / $15.2). This is a shockingly big wine from Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes for not a lot of $$. We'd like to know what you think when comparing it to the next wine...

Villa di Geggiano Chianti Classico ($35 / $28) Tannic and brooding, this is a traditional Chianti Classico that most people would agree is like what Napa Cabernet used to be. Chewy, earthy, and bold, without all that plush fruit. A family estate since the 1700s, they even own a steak house in London. So, if you're going to ask... "what wouuld you pair this with?" Our answer is probably "steak"  and more specifically the bisteca fiorentina.

Cerbaia Brunello di Montalcino ($59 / $47.2) From one of our favorite (and tiny) Tuscan producers, Cerbaia is located in Montosoli, the 'grand cru' of Montalcino. The father / daughter duo of Fabio and Elena Pelligrini farm this small estate right outside of the hill of Montalcino. Dark and exhuberant with notes of underbrush, forest berries, licorice and violets. A seriously good wine for not a lot of money when compaired to other Brunello from this zone.

Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca ($65 / $52.20) For the big Italian fans (there are many of you!) we needed to add some more Nebbiolo to the shop. We’re excited to share another wine from Luigi Pira - this being a single vineyard bottling from Marenca. Only 11 bottles are available because we are opening the 12th ;-)

Not open to taste, but additional Italian gifts wines include the following:
